This year's French Open is held at Le Golf National club just outside Paris. The tournament celebrated its 100th anniversary last year, making it the oldest in continental Europe, and is a very popular event on the PGA European Tour. Le Golf National is home to three Golf courses the 18 hole Albatros Course, the 18 hole classical Aigle (Eagle) Course and the 9 hole Oiselet (Sparrow) Course.
The Le Golf National Albatros golf course is located in the flatland region of Guyancourt, surrounding the historic Chateau of Versailles, once home to Louis XIV. The Albatros course was designed by golf architects Hubert Chesneau and Robert Von Hagge in the late 80's. Subtly crafted amidst the flat corn farmlands of the vast Guyancourt region, the beautiful course was created in the Scottish "links style" as well as the "target golf" style of the U.S. courses, adapting well to the native landscape.
The Albetros course has been recognised as one of the finest championship courses in Europe, both by the professional and the amateur golfer. The Albatros has been nominated as a 'Ryder Cup' venue. The Albatros is a demanding course requiring a great deal of composure and concentration. The course is open to visitors all year round and only a short distance from Paris.
From the Championship tees the total length of the course is just over 7000 yards. Its layout consists of well trimmed slick greens, vast undulating fairways dotted by innumerable links bunkers, sand traps, water hazards, fescue roughs, trees bushes as well as the rigid slopes and artificial sand mounds.
