Templer Park is a spectacular 18 hole golf course, set amidst an enchanting back-drop of shapely limestone hills, of which the most notable are Bukit Takun and Bukit Anak Takun, which will entrance and attract all golfers. Just 20 km from Kuala Lumpur on the main trunk road to the north, and 15 minutes from the city, the Templer Golf Club is ideally situated for tourists. The magnificent $5 million dollar Clubhouse features a swimming pool, bowling alley, gymnasium. health centre and squash, tennis and badminton courts. There are also video games, card and billiards rooms and a multi-purpose hall.
Jumbo Ozaki in association with Kentaro Sato designed the course, cleverly blending the course with the virgin jungle. Bunkers and water hazards are strategically placed to challenge the seasoned golfers to go for it. The final hole is a prime example, where golfers have the choice to take the direct route across the huge expanse of lake or to go round it to get to the green. Since Templer Park Country Club was opened in 1991, the club played host to all the major amateur tournaments in Malaysia. The professional tournaments held here were the Benson & Hedges Malaysian Open in 1995, 1996 and 2000.
The course comes in at just over 6,800 yards, with 4 sets of tees on every hole, it is a course for golfers of all levels of skills, from the beginners to the Pro's. Built to provide an enchanting and memorable experience, the golf course, features woodlands, lakes and dunes, the course has many wide fairways, with some as wide as 65 yards. Several of the holes feature water hazards 3 are former mining ponds, with 15 more man made.
Templer Park has a large variety of trees and flowers surrounding the greens and fairways, and the close proximately of the jungle means that you have a great chance of spotting exotic wildlife on the course. The Bermuda grass keeps the fairways in great condition all year round. Floodlights make the course's front nine playable late in to the night.
One of the most beautiful Par 3s is the 16th, a 158 yard carry across the water. For those who want to play safe, there is ample room on the left. While a long bunker straddles the front of the narrow green, another hides behind. The green is a difficult target, making club choice critical.
The 389 yard Par 4 13th, is one of the most difficult holes, on the left is dense forest, while swamps and the lake guard the right. The well bunkered green has water behind. Not only will precision and accuracy be needed, clubbing will also be vital.
The 18th is the ultimate test for an exciting finish. Huge lakes dominate the fairway, with carries of 200-250 yards, while swales appear around the heavily bunkered green. Not until the final putt is sunk on this demanding hole, can a winner be declared.
