The Golf Club at Moon Palace is a new concept in Golf courses, designed with particular attention to the environment. Construction and operation achieve perfect harmony between development and environmental conservation providing a beautiful location to play golf.
The Moon Palace Resort has three separate 9-hole courses the Jungle, the Lakes and the new Dunes. Jack Nicholas designed all three courses using his experience in golf course design to produce three very memorable courses, to satisfy every type of player. The golf club is surrounded by natural mangroves with a perfect ecological balance without distorting the flora and fauna. Its dynamic layout requires golfers to navigate through native vegetation as well as numerous wetlands and strategically placed bunkers. Each of the three-nine hole courses offers a distinctive environment that challenges professionals and amateurs as well. The Lake and Jungle courses are good but they're no match for the new Dunes course.
The Dunes nine is reminiscent of some of Nicklaus's early designs which brought criticism for only being playable for low handicapped golfer and the pro's. The Beauty of the course and condition is amazing as good as any championship course. The undulating fairways are well watered providing a great surface to play on. Most of the tees and greens have been raised providing great views of the surrounding countryside. Team Nicklaus used the natural dunes to frame the holes, giving the course an entirely different look and feel from the other Golf courses found on Cancan's Riviera Maya.
Team Nicklaus tests your accuracy and then tests it again. This is not a course where you can pull out driver and swing away. Even if your careful an average/high handicapped golfer is likely to find them self facing a number of awkward lies in the sand, on a hill, down in a dip or in the water. This might get annoying if you had to face 18 straight holes of it, the other two courses however will offer some respite.
The Moon Palace is one of the largest hotels in North America outside of Las Vegas, the Moon Palace has more than 2,000 rooms, but it does an excellent job of spreading out guests so it never appears crowded. There are multiple swimming pools, bars and a dozen restaurants. The Hotel is All Inclusive so all food, beverages, including alcohol, are included in the price.
The beauty of the Moon Palace is that its location and wealth of activities make it perfect for either a quick weekend escape from the States or as a week long vacation destination. Cancun is also becoming a popular destination for European golfers. The Golf Club offers equipment and cart hire, the carts are fitted out with GPS, this is a new user friendly feature with exact distancing, electronic scoring, live tournament leader board, food and beverages ordering and more. Besides golf, the resort itself offers SCUBA diving, Tennis, fitness facilities and great beaches.
If you are here for longer, you can take advantage of myriad local activities, including the stunning Mayan ruins at Tulum, Coba and Chichen Itza, with their pyramids and temples. There is also Cancun itself, including the strip of resort hotels and shops, the pedestrian friendly down-town of "Old" Cancun, and the quaint fishing village of Playa del Carmen. The nearby island of Cozumel offers an additional wealth of shops, restaurants and some of the world's best diving.
