The Old Course at The San Roque Club lies at the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja, where the mountains meet the sea and is rated among one of the finest courses in Europe. The course was originally designed by Dave Thomas in 1990 with Seve Ballesteros recently redesigning some of the bunkering.
The front nine holes wind through the cork oak forests that the resort is famous for and create the impression of very tight fairways that put a premium on driving accuracy. The back nine is situated across rolling hills with large undulations that test a player's judgement of distance to the limit. The overall feel of the course is more undulating than hilly.
Strategic bunker placement together with deceptive water hazards threaten all but the most precise approach shots to the fast greens, which are heavily contoured, rewarding only the well judged putts. Accuracy is the key to scoring well at San Roque.
The finishing holes wind around the resort's lakes, presenting a finish as beautiful as it is challenging. Playing a round on the Old Course is something special that every golfer will remember.
Acknowledged for it's challenge throughout Europe, the Old Course has hosted The Spainish Open in 2005. It provides a test for the very highest standard of club golfer and professionals.
