"Golfcourseworld.co.uk is dedicated to helping you find the best golf courses in the world, and not pitch and putt courses. However, after staying in Bath reviewing other courses, we stumbled upon this little jem. An 18 hole, par three pitch and putt course. We were so impressed that we thought we would add it to the directory. Well worth a try if your in the area."
Situated within the bounds of Bath's beautiful and historic Victoria Park, the Approach Course offers 30 par 3 holes of varying length. The 18 hole course provides a relaxed atmosphere for novice golfers to build some confidence and develop their game, whilst providing the more experienced golfer the opportunity to enhance their vital short game skills.
Sitting on the side of a steep hill with great views of the City of Bath in the background, this short course offers 18 par three holes ranging from 61 to 87 yards. There are few hazards and rough is used sparingly around the course, however, the course is harder than you may think.
The majority of the holes play up and down the hill, with the closing holes playing accross the slope. Bunkers are scarce, probably only 3-4 on the hole course, but the challenge lies in the elevations and slopes around the green.
The greens aren't great quality, but they are hard and fast, making it difficult to stop your approach shot on them. Putting can be a little inconsistent, but on the whole the greens are fairly true, but a little flat.
The course offers a number of ways to play each hole, as few hazards don't really restrict your route to the green. With the firmness of summer time it often pays to play punch and run shot rather than flying the ball all the way to the greens. The clever golfer with a bit of local knowledge will use the slopes to great succeess to bounce the ball into the flag. Holes such as the 3rd allow you to punch your ball 20 yards to the left of the green and let the slope roll the ball back down to the hole.
The last 6 holes offer up a few more chances for birdies, with some easier greens to hit, and can set up an exciting finish to your round.
This course is great for beginers but can be quite challenging to seasoned golfers. Few break par here but all will enjoy the experience.
