The Brabazon Course at The De Vere Belfry, is truly unique in the world of golf and needs little introduction. The reason: It is the only golf course in the world that has hosted The Ryder Cup four on four occasions.
One of the world's most famous golf destinations, a visit to The Belfry is a must for any one with a passion for the game of golf. The golf course is set out in the style of Augusta National, in a 360 acre park. Designed by Peter Alliss & Dave Thomas, the Brabazon Course was originally sited on 15 potato fields. The club has an impressive clubhouse and many other facilities.
The Brabazon course is set out with a lot of manmade features including water hazards, lakes & mounds. American style, target golf comes into play with the positioning of your golf ball being the essential key to scoring well.
The Belfry has so many memorable golf holes; it is difficult to single them all out. The Ninth is a great sweeping dog leg to a waterside green. The 10th is the ultimate risk/reward hole, a short par 4 driveable for some and does not offer an easy lay up. Made famous by Seve Ballesteros after driving the green during the Ryder Cup, The 18th is steeped in tradition and has been the site of 3 great European Ryder Cup wins.
The Belfry is home to the Quinn Direct British Masters and has hosted the Benson & Hedges International Open, the PGA Seniors' Championship as well as the Ryder Cup.
The 2007 Quinn Direct British Masters visits The Belfry for the second consecutive year, from September 20-23, with the historic course all set to produce a tournament packed full of excitement.
The Belfry is also home to the headquarters of the PGA of Great Britain & Ireland, the PGA of Europe, and the PGA National Training Academy.
