East Sussex National Golf Club offers two championship courses, the East and West courses, both of which were designed by Robert Cupp, one of Jack Nicklaus's course architects. The stadium layout of each course was designed with major championship golf in mind, providing ample room for spectators.
The ground is undulating and there are plenty of mature trees to negotiate, with the setting providing attractive views of the South Downs.
Once reserved for the members, the West Course is considered to be the more intimate, and the prettier of the two courses at the East Sussex National Golf Resort. The West course can now be played by visitors.
Robert Cupp used bent grass from tee to green, and the result is an American-styled course, with plenty of definition between the various cuts of grass. The West course measures a massive 7,154 yards from the back tees and represents a serious test of golf.
However this doesn't mean that the West Course is just for the pros. The course features four separate teeing areas and the course measures only 6,069 yards from the regular men's tees and 5,199 yards from the ladies' tees.
East Sussex National is a stylish golf complex and there is no doubt that this is one of the country's most welcoming golf clubs. A day playing the West Course is well worth the effort.
