The mountain setting of the Kings Course at Gleneagles provides the perfect backdrop for a championship course. When Lee Trevino first played the course he remarked, "If heaven is as good as this, I sure hope they have some tee-times left". The Kings Course is accompanied at the Gleneagles Resort by the Queens and the PGA Centenary Course.
The King's Course was designed by James Braid and opened in 1919, is a masterpiece of design. James Braid's plan for the King's Course was design a course to test even the best golfers shot-making skills over the entire eighteen holes. Some of the world's greatest golfer have admired the cunning and craft of the design.
Club selection for each approach shot is the secret to scoring well on the King's Course, with some sharp elevations around the greens. Stray from the safety of the spongy fairways and you are likely to encounter punishing rough littered with heather and gorse bushes.
It is one of the best moorland courses in the world, with beautiful and exhilarating scenery. There are sweeping views from all of the tees of rock-faced mountains to the north, green hills to the south, and the peaks of the Trossachs and Ben Vorlich on the western horizon.
The King's Course has hosted the Scottish Open on numerous occassions, as well as the Dunhill Trophy, the Curtis Cup and the WPGA Championship of Europe. The course
