Situated in historic parkland, Cottrell Park Golf Club is a magnificent setting for Golf and is home to two Championship 18 hole courses. The Mackintosh and The Button Gwinnett Course each offers a different challenge to all categories of Golfer.
Named after the Button family who resided at Cottrell Park during the 17th Century, The Button Gwinnett course is the slightly shorter of the two courses, which demands accuracy off the tee rather than length. The course has several small lakes with a new fantastic lake on the finishing hole.
The Button Gwinnett course features tall, over-hanging, mature trees that help provide a majestic atmosphere to your round, with breathtaking views sweeping northwards as far as the Brecon Beacons and southwards over the Bristol Channel to the Mendips.
The Button Gwinnett course measures 6156 yards off the back tees and has some great holes. The fourth hole measures 421 yards off the white tees dog legging right to left. Out of bounds run down the right hand side with two large ponds guarding the left hand side, just waiting for those golfers who take the risky option of cutting the corner.
The short eighth requires you to carry a ditch from the tee, being careful not to send the ball left or right as there are two huge ponds flanking the landing area. The undulating green sits downhill and is guarded by a large tree on the right.
Hit the green in one is the advice for the 187 yard par three ninth, with water to the left and a bunker on the right hand side of the green.
The difficult par four 14th hole dog legs to the right and needs both length and accuracy from the tee. Large mature trees encroach from the right and with three ponds in front of the green it really is one of the hardest holes on the course.
The short finishing hole on the Button Gwinnett course is lined with trees running the length of the hole on the right side. In front of the green there is a large lake with a huge bunker on the opposite side of the fairway with two more bunkers guarding the putting surface.
