In the heart of the desert, situated 20 kilometers from the city centre of Dubai, The Emirates Golf Club sports two championship golf courses, the Majlis and the Wadi, extensive recreational facilities and fine dining. With the United Arab Emirates fast becoming the preferred destination for the ultimate golf holiday, the Emirates Golf Club boasts two of the best golf courses in the region.
The original home of the Dubai Desert Classic and the flagship course of Emirates Golf Club, The Majlis Championship course is a challenging par 72 course carved straight out of the desert. The Emirates Golf Club is an oasis of green and has previously been voted as the Number 1 course on the European PGA tour by the competitors of the Dubai Desert Classic. Designed by Karl Litten, it was created to be both challenging and fair, and equally playable by leading professional golfers and the weekend golfers.
Where day time temperatures can range from 30-49°C, the course requires nearly 4.5 million litres of water a day, which is pumped onto the course through more than 500 sprinkler heads.
Sculptured around the original tall desert dunes in 1987, The Majlis Course was the first grass golf course in the Middle East and takes its name from the Arabic for "meeting place". The brainchild of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum of Dubai's ruling family, the course was designed to inspire awe in all who visit.
The layout is generally tight, requiring long and accurate tee shots to avoid the punishing rough, made up of indigenous shrubs and sandy desert. The course features many raised greens which add considerably to its already formidable 7211 yards .With imposing fairways and large, immaculate greens, the course will provide a difficult challenge for any golfer. The lush fairways bend into doglegs, change direction and wind round the six freshwater lakes throughout this course.
The clubhouse at the Emirates Golf Club, styled to represent a cluster of Bedouin tents, is well known as one of Dubai's most amazing landmarks and is one of the most prominent features on the course, positioned between the 8th and 9th holes. It boasts a restaurant, several bars and a pool area.
