The 7,001-yard, par-72 Burnt Pine opened in 1994. The USGA gives the 18-hole course an overall rating from the championship tee of 74.7, with a bogey rating of 101.5, and a slope of 44. The course is considered the more challenging of the two Jones brothers’ designs at the Sandestin Resort. Golf Magazine hailed the course as the "Crown Jewel of Florida Golf."
A traditionalist, Rees Jones grew up learning both the game of golf and how to design for golfers. While his courses may not be as extravagant as some others, Burnt Pines will challenge players and force them to work the course and not just play it, approaching each hole in a different way.
The course combines rolling fairways and strategically placed bunkers. Breathtaking views over the Choctawhatchee bay are a highlight of the back nine. Rees Jones makes great use of the natural contours of the Bay, bringing the course to the waters edge. The front nine takes golfers through the pine forests and wetlands of the Emerald Coast.
The many water features of this course come into play on 14 holes, and the bunkering is exceptional. Surrounding by water and pines, this course provides a real golfer's workout. Manoeuvring through doglegs and around bunkers, as with The Raven, club choice can make or break the round. The greens are medium in size and fast in speed with large undulations, be prepared and spend plenty of time on the pratice putting green.
Membership to Burnt Pine is open to Sandestin property owners and by owner invitation. Both resident and non-resident memberships are available and include access and preferred pricing on other recreational facilities, dining and merchandise purchases. Non-members tee times are available before 8 am. and after 1 pm.
